Going into Battle

Sep 28th 2012 | 0 COMMENTS

I took this photograph in Galway in the west of Ireland. It shows a young lad walking across playing fields with his coach in dense fog to join in a game of Hurling.

It was a surreal experience to see these children playing in dangerous conditions with very poor visibility using a white ball. I took some photos from near the goal but stopped that quickly as I kept ducking. I never saw a ball! Perhaps it was a drama groups play acting. They fooled me. Its an incredible sport.

It will be on show at an exhibition in Dublin in October 2012 as a part of the Irish Office of Public Work collection of art.

The exhibition is called ‘ELEMENTS’ and will run from 5th October until 31st at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, Ireland.
